We resurrected this old-fashioned treat and made it part of our Christmas tradition.
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. Karo syrup
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. butter, cubed
1 1/2 c. unsalted, roasted peanuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1 rounded tsp. baking soda
Mix sugar, water and syrup in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and slowly add butter, heating to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Add peanuts and stir for 7-10 minutes, until temperature reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from heat. Stir in baking soda and vanilla. Spread on a lightly greased pan. When cool, break into bite-size pieces.
